It’s a piece of crap. Don’t buy if you have newer equipment or newer operating system. Since it was $6, I just threw it in the trash. I run Windows 7 and also have a Vista box. I have a Yamaha PSR-E213 keyboard (which works with other midi adapters) and this usb cable doesn’t work at all. The input keeps blinking as if I’m pressing keys when I’m not and when I do press a key, it shows up as the wrong one, if at all. DO NOT BUY THIS!!! Go and put a little more money down for something that is not generic…

I was amazed to find one of these so cheap, but I should have known better with all the negative reviews. My setup is a computer running Windows XP to a synthesizer/keyboard/midi controller/Yamaha YPT-300. When I tried to use it, I found that the MIDI cords are labeled backwards. You have to plug the IN into the OUT on your midi device. This is normal for most midi converters. The next thing I noticed is the LEDs on it are very bright and some of them blink and it’s very annoying.

Either my converter was broken or it just wasn’t compatible with my setup. I bought this so I could use Synthesia. The program could send MIDI data, and I would hear music play out of my piano, but I could not send data from my piano to the program. I tried this with other programs and it still didn’t work. I re-plugged/reversed my MIDI cables many many times: nothing seemed to fix it. I’m very frustrated with this product. Someone said that they opened the box and found a few disconnected wires inside. I tried that and didn’t find anything. Thank goodness this was cheap.

    Pros:

    No drivers to install

    Cheap

    Cons:

    Annoying LED lights

    MIDI in didn’t work

Overall, I recommend you to try another one so you don’t waste your time with this one.

Can not get product to work. Windows will not recognize it. Driver will not self-install properly. NO website or support information. Disaster of a product.

I didn’t realize (even though you can see in the pictures) that this device has MALE MIDI sockets. My old device (and most MIDI to USB devices) have FEMALE MIDI ports. If you plan on using standard MIDI cables you’ll need an adapter to get your cords to mate.

This product is also VERY short, at least for my application. It is approx 6 feet long. However, even with that length I am unable to connect my synth to my PC. Considering they are only 3 feet apart I’m a little upset. I’ll now have to hunt down some Male to Female MIDI sockets so I can use my existing MIDI cables.

Avoid the hassle and just get a straight up MIDI interface for $30. This product is cheap, but you might need extra components whereas you wouldn’t had you spent the extra cash to get a real interface.

I am quite sure this product will work. Provided you have the other end of the 5 prongs that would ultimately narrow down to one 1/4 inch jack. Since receiving this product today, I have been searching for hours on end to find yet another adapter that this thing can plug into so I can use it in my keyboard which has a SINGLE 1/4 inch jack.. I have called music websites and nobody can help. I have done extensive research and now I will be forced to drive to a Radio shack with this unit in my hand to show the store rep and only pray that this person can figure out what adapter this adapter needs.

I am looking for a Y adapter but the two ends need to accept a prong with 5 pins in it now due to purchasing this item! not only that, but the new additional adapter would need to narrow down into a 1/4 inch jack that will go into a midi jack output for a synthesizer. I cannot locate such adapter now which basically renders this adapter useless.
