Machine constantly tells you to go the wrong way. You must have a general idea of where you need to go. Traffic warnings are the best feature. For a trucker GPS you would think it would give you location of weight stations.

If you are buying this gps to be used in a truc, stop and save your money. I have had mine for about three months now and I can’t count how many times it has tried to send me down weight limited roads, under low overpasses, onto length limited roads and through residential areas. Today in Holyoke, MA I was north bound on s. canal st at main st. The nuvi wanted me to continue north and a block ahead of me I could see an 11′ 6″ clearance sign and just past it a 10′ sign. So I made the turn onto main st west bound which is the recomended truck route and the nuvi starts beeping and telling me I am not on a truck route and there is an 11′ for bridge ahead of me which there wasn’t. This is a regular accourance that happens several times a week.
Another time I was on a narrow two lane state hwy with no shoulders and it wanted me to turn onto a single lane dirt road so I continued past it and the nuvi then tells me to make an immidiate u turn. Hmm I have loaded my length of 75 feet into the truck info and it still thinks I can make a u turn in an area that a car would have a difficult time. Again this is a regular occurance.
Want to add custom poi’s? It is difficult to do and they will not do you much good because Garmin has decided you don’t need to see anypoi’s if you are moving over 5 mph. Want to know what restraunts (or any other poi you want) that is coming up on your route while driving? To find out you have to click through 9 screens to get to a list that shows you the distance you are away from them and a little arrow pointing in the direction it is. But you still don’t know if it is on your route or not since there is no option to find them on your route.
Miss a turn? The nuvi will take about 4 seconds before it realizes you have missed the turn then the screen will freeze while it takes about 10 to 12 seconds to recalculate the route then the screen jumps to where you are now. If you get it to recalculating four or five times or more in a row quickly it will give up and shut down and then reboot itself. When it gets done rebooting (or if you turn it on after having it off) you will have to click the accept button stating that you are responsible and not them if the directions are not right, then you have to click another button telling if you want to use truck or car directions, then you have to click a third time to accept the truck size info that you have put in is correct. Seems to me like if you accept this stuff you shouldn’t have to do it each time the unit is turned on.
I have an old tomtom go300 with three year old maps that gives me just as good of directions as this truck nuvi does and it is easier to use, is easer to add and use poi’s, and recalculates routes faster.
So save your money and go buy a cheap car one instead of this one.

great productfor trucking the screen is not very bright though compared to mt other gamin they told me that is the way that one is.makes it very hard to se in the day time.street names are also very small to read when driving.but for the most part it works great love the hazemet avodences and traffic but some times not 100% correct

Overall this GPS is a good investment. Provides an improvement over the nuvi 200 car GPS I have been using. I am using a combination of Custom Points of Interest (POI’s), Favorites I programmed in, addresses, and POI’s that came with the software to get where I need to go. I use the GPS in combination with maps and written directions to select the route to take. The GPS does not always select the best route, but so far has not given a route that will not work. You can preview the route to determine if it is the way you want to go.
The estimated time of arrival is very good. I often add 15 min. as a cushion on a 200 to 300 mile run. Distance to turn and lane assist are also very helpful.
I have noticed some errors in the data base. Restrictions where none exist, and turns not recognized.
The directions use street names. I would prefer route numbers, then street names.
The speaker volume is very low for use in a high background noise tractor (Freightliner) This also makes the Bluetooth feature next to worthless. In a quiet tractor or car the volume would be good and Blue tooth a real plus.
I have also had to re-boot the unit (shut off, unplug, turn back on) to correct a glitch in the voice.

No way would I recommend this unit to truckers. In CA it doesn’t list scales coming up, and when I leave the interstate the default seems to be to inform me that I should observe local route restrictions. WTF!
My previous Garmin got wet and died, entirely my fault. It was a 770 as I recall and a 3 of 5 unit. I’m comfortable with Garmin products but can think of NUMEROUS ways they could be made better. Of course, no one is asking…
